New Mexico State scored six runs in the first two innings on the way to a 11-1 run-rule win over UT Arlington on Saturday at Presley Askew Field.

The Aggies (24-20, 9-8 WAC) took control early against UTA starter Zach Thompson when Robert Lecount capped off a four-run first with a home run to left. Lecount went 2 for 4 at the plate with five RBI in the game.

Thompson (5-3) gave seven runs on 11 hits while striking out two in 32/3 innings for UTA.

Things didn’t get much better for UTA (23-20, 11-6) when Thompson left. Sam Hansen, who came in relief of Thompson, gave up three runs on no hits and three walks before Kennedy Winn finished out the game by giving up a run on two hits while striking out five in two innings.

Eight of the nine Aggies starter registered a hit in the game and four collected two or more. Tanner Rust led the way going 3 for 3 with two RBI and three runs scored.

The Mavericks, who only managed three hits in the game, scored their only run in the fourth when Darien McLemore singled home Greg McCall.

New Mexico State starter Ryan Beck (6-3) kept UTA off balance at the plate, giving up one run on three hits while striking out eight in the complete game.

The teams will conclude their series at 2 p.m. Sunday.
