MANSFIELD -- Investigators were working late Thursday to determine the cause of a two-alarm blaze that heavily damaged part of the Word of Life Church.

No one was in the building when firefighters arrived shortly after a passer-by reported the fire at 9:39 p.m., Mansfield Fire Chief Barry Bondurant said.

Battalions from Mansfield and Arlington worked until just before 11 p.m. to bring the fire under control. The fire appeared to be in offices and an old sanctuary, he said.

The church is at 2200 N. U.S. 287, just north of Farm Road 157. -- Patrick Walker
