Texas, Oklahoma State and TCU completed second-round play before the Big 12 men’s golf championship was suspended due to darkness in Hutchinson, Kan.

The Longhorns posted a two-round total of 571 and are six shots clear of Oklahoma State. TCU is one back of the Cowboys with a 578.

Competition on Tuesday was postponed because of inclement weather. Round 3, which will now be the final round, will begin at noon Wednesday. Remaining Round 2 action will be completed Wednesday morning. The tournament has been shortened from 72 to 54 holes.

Hokies player arrested

Blacksburg police said 19-year-old Virginia Tech tailback Michael Holmes was charged with felony malicious wounding and two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery following a fight Sunday morning.

Under the school’s athletic department policy, any athlete charged with a felony is automatically suspended from all athletic-related activities.

Briefly

• Bob Shipley, the head football coach and athletics director at Brownwood High School for the past four years, has been named as Texas’ football analyst in the player personnel department, Longhorns coach Mack Brown announced Monday.
