The UT Arlington baseball team is back in Texas after spending a weekend in the rain-soaked Pacific Northwest, but it still can’t get away from a shower-filled forecast.After weathering a soggy series in Seattle by dropping two of three games, the Mavericks visit former Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville, where there is a chance of thunderstorms. The Mavericks have lost three of their last four games after winning four straight the week before. Matt Shortall, UTA’s top hitter, had a rough weekend from the plate. The junior went 2 for 13 to drop his team-leading average to .359.Sam Houston State lost two out of three over the weekend, but it has gone 7-3 in midweek games this season, notching wins over Texas A&M, Texas, Rice and Baylor. UTA knocked SHSU out of the conference tournament semifinals last year, so expect the Bearkats to play with an extra edge on Tuesday.On Wednesday, the Mavericks host Arkansas-Little Rock at Clay Gould Ballpark in hopes of exacting their own revenge after getting pounded 12-2 in Little Rock on March 12.
