Keller to host Arlington Martin in Quidditch

For the past four years, Keller High School students have fielded a club Quidditch team, and on May 3, the team will have the opportunity to show what it’s made of as it will take on Arlington Martin High School at 4 p.m.

Quidditch is the sport featured in the Harry Potter series of books, played upon broomsticks among rival houses at the Hogwarts school.

Until this season, the Keller players have only scrimmaged against each other, and the program has produced a number of athletes who have gone on to start Quidditch programs at Texas universities.

According to the district website,, “The captain of the Texas A&M Quidditch Club, Drew Wasikowski; the founder of the Baylor University Quidditch Club, Paul Willard; and the founder of the St. Joseph's University Quidditch Club, Kati Polaski, all are former members of the KHS Quidditch Club. Former member Erin McDonald is a member of the Sam Houston State Quidditch team which won the Division 2 Championship at the International Quidditch Association's World Cup on April 14 in Kissimmee, Fla., and former KHS Quidditch Club athletes can be found on teams at Texas Tech, TCU, and University of Texas as well.”

Keller High Quidditch Club's match against Arlington Martin is scheduled for 4 p.m. on May 3 at the KHS Quidditch pitch located on the fields west of the KHS campus.

Texans lose close one to Richland

The Northwest baseball team came up just short on Friday night against Richland, losing to the Rebels by a score of 4-3 at home.

Victor DeJesus doubled in the game for the Texans.

Northwest will wrap up the season at 7 p.m. on Friday at Keller Central.

Nelson hammers Denton

The Byron Nelson softball team defeated Denton 10-1 on Friday night to wrap up district competition with an 11-3 mark.

Ashley Dumoulin, Emily Wood and Jacey Allen both doubled in the game for the Lady Bobcats.

Casey's Kids Fun Run set for May 11

The annual Casey's Kids 5K Fun Run will take place on May 11 at the KISD Natatorium, the proceeds from which go to needs KISD students.

According to the district website,, “The event began as an idea by long-time KISD counselor Janie Casey who wanted to create a way for families to support each other by providing monetary donations toward purchasing necessities for KISD students in need, all while providing an outlet for enjoyment, exercise, and socialization.”

The Fun Run will begin at 7:30 a.m. and information on how to register for the event can be found on the district website.
