•  Parker Paws Adoption Events –April 27

Parker Paws will be showing off pets looking for new families at the Weatherford PetSmart from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. PetSmart is located at I-20 exit 408 in Weatherford, in the shopping center just south of the interstate. Poolville United Methodist Church will be holding its annual Garage Sale on April 27th from 8 a.m. to noon. It will be in the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church Weatherford located at 301 S. Main. Expected items to include furniture, appliances,household items, books and clothes.

Parker Paws will be participating in the semi-annual Belk Charity Sale dedicated to supporting local non-profits on Saturday, April 27, 6 a.m.-10 a.m. This is a fundraiser opportunity - Parker Paws received 100 tickets to sell; we sell them for $5 and keep $5;customers receive 20-70% off purchases during those 4 hours, in addition to applying the $5 ticket price to their purchase. On the morning of the sale, the first 100 customers will receive a Belk gift card ranging in value from $5-$100.

Visit the Parker Paws tent at the city of Weatherford's annual BLOOMS Home and Garden Festival on the square in downtown Weatherford, 9a.m.-3p.m. Meet our adoptable dogs and checkout our Parker Paws merchandise and dog items available for sale. There will be a variety of vendors. join us for a fun shopping and dining experience.

• Sat., May 4th - Gluten Intolerance Group of North Texas

Meets at The Hills Church, 6300 NE Loops 820 N. Richland Hills. The regular support group as well as the free Celiac 101 Class (for newly diagnosed) starts at 10 a.m. and both end at noon. For the meeting, members will host Kathryn Miller, M.S., R.D., L.D., who is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian and who has spent the last 23 years working at the Cooper Clinic specializing in cardiovascular disease, weight loss, celiac and other GI diseases, as well wellness and prevention. She serves as Co-Director for the Cooper Clinic nutrition department, a division of the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas.

Miller became interested in working with patients with celiac disease in the 1990’s when her father was having GI issues. Her father was not diagnosed with celiac disease until 2006, at which time he began following a gluten free diet. Because of her interest in helping educate her father and her involvement in helping her father purchase gluten free food, prepare gluten free meals and learn how to manage eating out on a gluten free diet, she has first hand experience of how to guide people who have been diagnosed with celiac disease.

Miller graduated from Oklahoma State University with BS degree in Food, Nutrition and Institution Administration in 1970. She completed her Master of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University in Food, Nutrition and Institution Administration with an emphasis in Human Nutrition in 1984. She completed her 6 month pre-planned work experience at South Miami Hospital in 1985 and began working at South Miami Hospital as a Registered Dietitian in 1986. After moving to Dallas in 1989, she began working at the Cooper Clinic. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Dallas Dietetic Association and the Medical Nutrition Practice Group.

• Fri., May 10 - Newcomers

The Parker County Women's and Newcomer's Club will host our annual fund raiser which will be a Scholarship Luncheon and Style Show on Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m. at the Alkek Center at Weatherford College. The cost will be $20 with reservations made by calling 817-594-5127 by May 5.

We invite and encourage the public to join us for this annual event to help support our only fund raising project of the year. Proceeds received on this occasion will help provide a scholarship for a non-traditional female student attending Weatherford College. To learn more about the PCWNC please go to pcwnc.org.

•  Thurs., May 17 - Wizard of Oz

Trinity Christian Academy presents their spring musical "The Wizard of Oz." Performances will be 7 p.m. nightly May 9-11 and 1 p.m. on May 11th. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children and can be purchased online at www.tcathewizardofoz.eventbrite.com or at the school. •  Sat., May 18 - Shredding time

The annual Shredding & Recycling Event hosted by Snow Garrett Williams CPA’s will be Saturday, May 18. 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. (or until truck is filled) at 1207 Santa Fe Drive, Weatherford.

Bulldog Shredding Company will have their on-site document destruction vehicle on the premises.

We can accept documents, computer hard drives, catalogs and magazines. Staples do not need to be removed. Please no 3 ring binders, no large clamps or hanging files. You can bring everything in a cardboard box, but the cardboard box will be returned to you.
