After falling 10-3 in the first game, UT Arlington used a complete-game six hitter from starter Zach Thompson to win 3-1 and split a doubleheader with Seattle on Saturday at Bannerwood Park.

Center fielder Brandon Lawrence led the way in the second game for UTA (21-17, 10-4 WAC), going 2 for 2 with two walks. He also scored all three of the Mavericks runs.

Thompson threw 133 pitches and came back after a 33-minute rain delay in the fourth inning.

In the first game, Seattle (14-23, 4-9) used a six-run seventh inning to erase a UTA rally and win 10-3. The Mavericks managed seven hits, including two a piece from Greg McCall and Justin Copeland, but left eight men on base in the loss.

The Redhawks roughed up Mavericks starter Brad Vachon, taking a 4-0 led going into the sixth inning. UTA then rallied with three runs in the sixth only to see Seattle score six on four hits in the seventh.

Vachon, who gave up only a walk in the first two innings, gave up six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out only two to fall to 2-4 on the season.
