An 18-month-old girl was scalded by hot water early Friday evening in Bedford, the city's fire chief said.

The child was taken by helicopter to the burn unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Bedford fire Chief James Tindell said.

Firefighters were summoned about 5 p.m. to a home in the vicinity of Forest Ridge Drive and Harwood Road, Tindell said. The neighborhood is on the city's northwest side.

The helicopter landed at Bedford Boys Ranch Park on the southwest corner of the intersection.
