Overview

It is one of the deepest positions in the draft. Alabama’s Dee Milliner and Florida State’s Xavier Rhodes are top-20 picks, but there are several quality options from the late first round through the third day. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see at least four cornerbacks drafted on the first day.

Cowboys’ needs

The Cowboys spent a lot on upgrading the position last off-season. They signed free agent Brandon Carr to a five-year, $50.1 million deal, and they drafted Morris Claiborne in the first round. Nickel back Orlando Scandrick played in 11 games before going on injured reserve with a left hand injury that required surgery. Mike Jenkins, a former first-round pick, signed with the Raiders in free agency.

Top five

Dee Milliner, Alabama, 6-0, 201, 4.35: He had 22 passes defensed and 54 tackles last season.

Xavier Rhodes, Florida State, 6-2, 210, 4.39: He started 38 games in his career, and last season, he made three interceptions and defensed 10 passes.

Desmond Trufant, Washington, 6-0, 190, 4.38: He had an interception and defensed nine passes last season as quarterbacks avoided his side of the field.

Johnathan Banks, Mississippi State, 6-0, 190, 4.59: He had 71 tackles, 11.5 for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, nine pass breakups and five interceptions last season.

Jamar Taylor, Boise State, 5-11, 192, 4.37: He had four interceptions, 51 tackles, 2.5 sacks, nine pass breakups and three forced fumbles.

Sleeper

Tyrann Mathieu, LSU, 5-9, 186, 4.46: His size and his off-field issues make him a huge gamble, but he did show big-play ability while at LSU.

Top Texas ties

D.J. Hayden, Houston, 5-11, 191, 4.42: His stock has risen despite a season-ending tear of the inferior vena cava in the heart from a freak practice collision, and he could be a first-round pick.

Steve Williams, California, 5-9, 181, 4.34: The Dallas Skyline product is projected as a sixth-rounder after team defensive MVP honors last season.

Adrian Bushell, Louisville, 5-10, 186, 4.56: The DeSoto product, who left Florida after two seasons, is projected as a sixth-rounder after starting two seasons for the Cardinals.

Dax Swanson, Sam Houston, 5-10, 186, 4.48: A possible late-round pick, he owns the school record for interceptions with 14.

Josh Aubury, Stephen F. Austin, 5-11, 199, 4.40: Eleven teams have called about him, and he has worked out for Browns, Giants and Raiders.
