The Texas Wesleyan baseball team hopes to recover after its 15-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday.

The 10-6 defeat was the Rams’ first since a March 16 defeat to Northwood at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, and coach Mike Jeffcoat said the team is ready to begin a new streak when it counts.

“For whatever reason, we played flat,” Jeffcoat said. “To expect college kids to be up every game is tough to ask. We were just flat. We have to try to start a streak again starting Friday with our series against Wiley College.”

The Rams (34-13, 17-6 RRAC) enter their final Red River Athletic Conference series at 3 p.m Friday at LaGrave Field.

TWU sits in third position in the RRAC, leading LSU-Shreveport by 2 1/2 games for the third seed in the conference tournament, which begins April 27 in Shreveport, La.

With just one win in their upcoming series against Wiley (5-30, 4-19), the Rams will solidify at least the third seed in the tournament. Bacone leads Wesleyan by three games and controls the tiebreaker, and Northwood has a four-game lead on TWU and a one-game lead on Bacone for the top seed.

The Rams conclude their 2013 campaign on Monday with a nonconference game at Oklahoma City University.

Wesleyan pitcher breaks NAIA record

Senior relief pitcher Nolan Barbee surpassed a fellow Texas Wesleyan pitcher to set an NAIA record for career appearances with 109. The record of 105 was held by Hayden Lackey since 2008.

The Richardson native has a 20-10 career record with a 2.82 ERA on 226 strikeouts.

“It’s a sense of accomplishment,” Barbee said. “To have been able to have had the opportunity to come in ballgames and contribute so many times and have the durability throughout my career here gives me a great sense of accomplishment.”
