OverviewWest Virginia’s Geno Smith is the top-rated player at his position on most, if not all, draft boards, but the order is all over the place after that. Smith could be the only quarterback selected in the first round or he could be one of three. While this class lacks a Luck or an RG3, talent still is available. As always, this position will be the wild card on draft day.Cowboys’ needsDespite Tony Romo’s 17-21 record over the past three seasons, his one playoff victory and his advancing age, the Cowboys have great faith in their starting quarterback. They signed Romo to a six-year, $108 million extension, making him the fifth-highest-paid player in the NFL. He is their present and their future. Romo turns 33 on Sunday, but the Cowboys believe he is a young 33 since he didn’t become a starter until the middle of the 2006 season. Kyle Orton, 30, returns for a second season as Romo’s backup. But the Cowboys would be well served in the next couple of years to start grooming a young quarterback as the heir apparent. Since 1992, the Cowboys have drafted only two quarterbacks — Quincy Carter in the second round in 2001 and Stephen McGee in the fourth round in 2009.Top five Geno Smith, West Virginia, 6-3, 218, 4.56: He threw for 4,356 yards and 42 touchdowns in 2012 and 11,658 and 98 for his career.
