North Richland Hills police are investigating an incident involving Walker Creek Elementary school students being exposed to pornography while boarding a charter bus last week.

It is not clear exactly what the children saw on the video screens while on the bus, which was owned by Executive Coach Inc., according to Mark Thomas, a spokesman for the Birdville school district.

"We are appalled that it even happened. Our first priority was taking care of the students," Thomas said.

Thomas said that on April 9, up to 20 fifth-grade students were boarding for a three-day camping trip to Sky Ranch, according to the school calendar posted online. The children were on the bus briefly until either a parent volunteer or a member of the school district's staff removed them.

The children were immediately removed from the bus, and their parents were contacted. The trip resumed after the Walker Creek Elementary principal contacted all of the parents, Thomas said.

The driver was not on the bus at the time the students saw the pornography, said Keith Bauman, a spokesman for the North Richland Hills police department. They are investigating the incident as a sexual offense and no one has been arrested.

"This is being considered a sexual offense in nature and the victims are minors," Bauman said after declining to release detailed information about the incident. "This case is being actively investigated."
