SAGINAW — Dominance is not something that typically shows up in a rivalry game.
For 31/2 innings of softball Tuesday, that was the case until Saginaw plated seven runs in the bottom of the fourth and three in the fifth to cruise to a 13-4 win over Saginaw Boswell.
Saginaw improved to 20-9 overall and 14-1 in District 6-4A, and the Rough Riders remain tied atop the district with Birdville.
My fielding was so bad tonight I knew I needed to help myself out at the plate, Saginaw pitcher Mary Kate Lenth said. That was the first time in district this season that we were down so we did a lot of talking to each other about staying patient and getting it done.
Lenth was outstanding at the plate, going 4 for 4 with two doubles and six RBIs. She also kept Boswell at bay, allowing four runs on six hits for her 13th win of the season.
However two of the runs were direct results of two errors by Lenth. Still, the Riders shook those off and got the bats humming in the fourth.
After Saginaw had scored four runs to start, Lenth plated one run by reaching on an error and when Tori Hernandez reached on a fielders choice, it loaded the bases for catcher Amber Rhett.
Rhett cleared the bases with a fly ball into the left-center gap.
Three more runs in the fifth help put things away and Lenth started to gain confidence settle in the circle.
Boswell dropped to 16-13 overall and sits in third place in district at 10-5.
