FORT WORTH -- A suspected robber is dead and his intended victim hospitalized with minor injuries following a shooting outside a Fort Worth business in southeast Fort Worth, officials said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 p.m. in the 7400 block of Wichita Street.

Investigators believe the two men had met at the location after one of them had advertised buying cellphones on Craigslist.

During the meeting, however, one of the men attempted to rob the other, police said.

The robbery victim was a licensed concealed handgun carrier, police said.

"He took out his gun and he shot the alleged perpetrator in the chest several times," MedStar spokesman Mat Zavadsky said he was told by paramedics.

The robber was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He had not been identified as of late Tuesday afternoon.

The alleged robbery victim suffered in a non life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm in the shooting, according to Zavadsky.

It remained unclear late Tuesday afternoon whether the victim had been shot by the armed robber or whether he may have shot himself in the melee, officials said.
