TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle and his players know the time for talking is through.

If the Horned Frogs want to salvage their season and catapult Sunday’s up-off-the-mat, ninth-inning comeback win into something real, the wins have to continue to pile up.

That means winning midweek games such as the one at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at UT Arlington.

The Mavericks (20-15) have won four consecutive games, including a sweep over the weekend against San Jose State.

The last time the teams met, TCU held on for a 5-4 win at Rangers Ballpark. Stefan Crichton (2-3) won that game with 2 2/3 innings of solid work out of the bullpen. He’ll be on the mound Tuesday against UTA’s John Beck (1-3). Beck was one of five Mavs’ pitchers who threw against TCU in March. He held the Frogs to one hit in the final two innings.

The Frogs (16-20) are hoping to carry the momentum from Sunday’s improbable win to the last 18 games of the regular season. TCU hosts Baylor for another crucial Big 12 series beginning Friday.

“It’s huge,” TCU’s Kevin Cron said after Sunday’s win. “Obviously, we haven’t had nearly the start we wanted to, we’ve lost a lot of close games, a lot of games that have come down to one play or one inning. To win a game like this is really awesome for us ... it just puts us on the right track to stay confident and ready to go going into this week’s games. This can’t be the end. We have to keep going and hopefully this will get us on the roll we need to be on.”

Brett Johnson, whose three-run, pinch-hit double won Sunday’s game, echoed Cron and his teammates on how TCU can use the momentum.

“Just to ride it,” he said. “We have to get back out here on Tuesday and get going and next weekend against Baylor and just keep it rolling. We’ve had some downs and some ups this year and hopefully we can get on the right track right now and start winning a lot of games.”
