Northwest track finishes second in district meetNorthwest’s boys and girls track and field teams finished second behind Southlake Carroll in the District 4-5A track meet held last week at Keller ISD Stadium.The Timber Creek boys and girls finished third.In the boys division, Keller and Central finished fourth and fifth, respectively.In the girls standings, Central was fourth and Fossil Ridge fifth.Northwest head coach, George Lutkenhaus said his team set several team records and has put in their best performances at the right time of the year.Winning district titles were Northwest’s Jordan Mudrow, 100m, Zach Kirkland, 800m, Kerry Gleason, 110m and 300m hurdles, Duke Kicinski, discus; Central’s James Dustin, 200m and 400m (see related story), 4x100m relay; Keller’s Austin Dalquist, 3200m, Gabe McAdams, pole vault, Luke Young, shot put; Timber Creek’s Zach Troxler, long jump, Che Carr, triple jump.For the girls, local district champions include Fossil Ridge’s Mia Pollard, 100m and 200m and the 4x100m relay; Timber Creek’s Janay Arnold, 800m, Taylor Terry, triple jump; Northwest’s 4x200m relay, Desiree Freier, pole vault, Kiarra Simpson, discus; Keller’s Alex Adams, shot put.The top four finishers will advance to the new area-round meet this Thursday and Friday at Coppell, to compete against District 3-5A’s top four district finishers. The top four from the area meet will advance to the regional invitational.Mens basketball, softball leagues now formingThe Keller Pointe is offering competitive and recreation basketball leagues this spring-through-summer, while the Alliance Community Fellowship will be offering mens softball leagues.In basketball, the eight-week regular season will then be followed by playoffs in the Monday night Competitive divisions, with the Recreational play being held on Thursday nights.Play begins April 22 and the cost is $375 per team.For more information, go to the cityofkeller.com website and search Keller Pointe.Softball will be available for men this spring through the Alliance Community Fellowship (ACF). The Panthers are 8-3 in District 4-5A. Joel Perez picked up his sixth win of the year.Timber Creek dropped a district contest on Saturday to Richland, 5-2.Showing some offensive power for the Falcons was Issac Shlarbach with a double and Brandon Hubley with a triple.The Falcons are 7-19 and 1-10 in district.
