I was glad to see Cyndee Shields of Mansfield call for including MISD high school bands to be in the Mansfield Pickle Parade. As an MISD taxpayer, I always enjoy seeing people call for our tax dollars to be spent in new ways.

Keep in mind, of course, due to budget cuts by the 2011 Legislature, there was barely enough money in the MISD budget to get the bands to football games last season, not to mention new events like the Pickle Parade. To get the uniforms out of off-season storage, open the band halls on an off day, rent buses and trucks to get gear and kids to the parade site and re-clean the uniforms to return to storage, marching in the parade would likely cost upward of $2,000 per band.

The citizens of Mansfield, starting hopefully with Ms. Shields, are welcome to make contributions to your favorite MISD band booster organization to help defray costs of that band participating in the 2014 event. We look forward to receiving your contribution.
