FORT WORTH -- A 23-year-old Fort Worth man who admitted to police that he "lost control" and stuck a pencil in the anus of a 3-year-old boy he was baby-sitting was indicted Wednesday on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Alex Daniel Delgado has been in jail since his arrest in January. His bail is set at $250,000.

Fort Worth police say Delgado was baby-sitting the night of Jan. 13 while the boy's mother worked an overnight shift.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the mother told police that she arrived home about 6:45 a.m. Jan. 14 and found her son asleep and covered with blankets in his bed.

About an hour later, the mother was awakened by Delgado, who told her that the boy had gotten a swollen lip after falling from his Thomas the Tank Engine toddler chair onto a barbell on the floor.

Delgado also told his girlfriend that he bit the child's hand because the boy had tried to open the front door, the affidavit states.

The mother heard her son make noise in his room and went to check on him. When she lifted him, he began vomiting, and she noticed about five bandages on his fingers, the affidavit states.

When she began to remove his clothes, he looked "beat up" with bite marks and bruises covering his body.

The mother drove him to Huguley Memorial Medical Center. She told investigators that Delgado questioned her about where she was going and why she was taking the boy to the hospital.

According to the affidavit, doctors found multiple bite marks on the boy's hands, numerous bruises and significant swelling in the top lip.

The boy also had to undergo surgery for a torn rectum, the affidavit states.

Delgado told investigators that the boy had watched movies with him into the early morning hours of Jan. 14 but wanted to leave and kept crying for his mother.

Delgado admitted to police that he became angry and "went too far" when the boy tried to open the door around 1 a.m.

Delgado told investigators that he bit the boy's fingers, hands, toes and feet to teach him not to open the door.

He told police that he "lost control" and stuck a pencil up the child's anus.

Delgado's court-appointed attorney, Daniel Young, could not be reached for comment.
