JUSTIN — Denton Guyer raced past Birdville 3-0 Friday in a Class 4A girls soccer sectional playoff match at Northwest ISD Stadium.
The Wildcats (22-1) will face Stephenville in the regional quarterfinals at a time and date to be determined later.
Friday marked Guyers second victory over District 11-4A foe Birdville (19-9-1) in two weeks and third win this season by a 10-1 combined margin.
This one, I lost a lot of sleep over because playing a team three times is a recipe for disaster, Guyer coach Kenny Blevins said. Birdville came out and gave everything that theyve got and the score was very deceptive. It was an evenly contested game but we got some finishes when we needed to.
The Hawks controlled possession early and found a couple openings early in the game, including a free kick by captain McKenna Jetton from 35 yards out that just missed over the crossbar.
After Birdvilles opening flurry, Wildcats sophomore forward Brittany Crabtree scored the lone goal of the first half off of a nice assist from Peyton Draper in the 18th minute. Following an own goal by Birdville six minutes into the second half, Crabtree added her second score of the night and 32nd of the season on a beautiful drop from Hannah Alspach in the 52nd minute.
Guyer has won 14 straight matches, hasnt lost since January and picked up its first shutout of the postseason Friday after outscoring Mineral Wells and Gainesville by a combined 9-3 in the first two rounds.
Our backs have been awesome all year long, we have a quality goalkeeper, they stay organized in there and are very fast, Blevins said.
