Two men were hurt at about noon Thursday when the pickup they were in collided head-on with another truck while driving the wrong way on Northwest Loop 820, police said.

The two men are suspected of fleeing the scene of a theft at the Home Depot in Lake Worth, said Officer Don Price, Lake Worth police spokesman.

The episode began when someone at the store called police to report a "theft in progress," Price said.

As officers responded, Price said, the two men fled in a black Dodge pickup.

Next, officers in neighboring Sansom Park saw the truck leaving the store and turning onto the loop, also called Jim Wright Freeway.

But the truck "began traveling west in the eastbound service road lanes of the freeway," Price said.

"The vehicle then struck another truck head-on," he said. "Both the actors were detained, one with serious injuries and one with non-life-threatening injuries."

Both men were taken by MedStar to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Price said. Their conditions could not be learned Thursday evening.

A man in the other truck was not hurt, Price said.

He added that police were still investigating Thursday.
