After two unspectacular seasons in Philadelphia, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is returning to the Bay Area.The former Cal standout who earned two All-Pro selections in eight seasons with the Oakland Raiders agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. The contract has a $1.35 million base salary with another $1.65 million available in incentives.Asomugha, the jewel of the 2011 free agent class, chose the 49ers over New Orleans and Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who was defensive coordinator in Oakland from 2004-08.Briefly • Cardinals: New coach Bruce Arians said quarterback Carson Palmer, acquired from the Raiders in a trade for a conditional seventh-round draft pick, will be the team’s starter ahead of Drew Stanton, Ryan Lindley and Brian Hoyer. • Raiders: Cornerback Tracy Porter, a key player in New Orleans’ Super Bowl XLIV win, signed a one-year $2.5 million deal, leaving Denver after medical issues limited him to six games last year. • Jaguars: Defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks, who spent his first four seasons with Tennessee, agreed to a one-year deal. • Browns: Linebacker Chris Gocong, who missed all of last season with an Achilles injury, and safety Usama Young, who started 11 games in 2012, were released. • Buccaneers: Former Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding and former Eagles and Giants receiver Steve Smith signed one-year contracts. • Ravens: Safety Christian Thompson, a fourth-round pick in 2012, will be suspended the first four games of next season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. • Bills: Former Cowboys running back Tashard Choice re-signed and tight end Dorin Dickerson accepted the team’s tendered contract offer.
