It was a packed room Saturday at the Cowboy Hall of Fame Museum in the famous Stockyard Station in Fort Worth for the 12th annual spring fundraiser benefiting the National Vietnam War Museum. The event rotates from Fort Worth, Weatherford and Mineral Wells before it repeats. The live auction each year has approximately 30 items, while the silent auction had grown to more than 85 items at the time of the event.“We put the top 30 items in the live auction and the rest go to the silent auction,” said event organizer Jim Messinger. “Support is still strong financially, but the attendance is down a little this year, normal attendance is 180 and this year it’s at 150.”The funds generated at the event are to be used as needed but it also assists in new construction, maintenance, repeating events, new events and more, Messinger said.“We never set a goal except to have fun,” Messinger added. “I now refer to it as a fun raiser.”Passionate about the museum, Messinger said he never stops and that the date for next year’s event, as well as the entertainment, have already been booked.“After we close the books on this year’s event, I will book the facility for next year,” he said. “No time for feelings or celebrations, the museum needs funding and this is 10-20 percent of our annual budget. No fundraiser, no budget, no museum.”NVWM SummaryThe museum incorporated in 1997 and began building in 2006.
