I suppose they could still be considered the new kids on the culinary block.Copper Creek, located at 216 W. I-20, has been open right at six months and boasts of serving up “fine Texas dining.”From what my dining companion and I saw and tasted, they weren’t lying. On this occasion, we began by sampling from the starter/small plate menu.Being a fan of calamari, it was an easy choice to select the Lemon Pepper Crusted Calamari. Before it arrived, a member of the restaurant’s wait staff presented us with the typical complimentary bread and butter, however, it was anything but typical as the bread came in a loaf that was piping hot, light and crispy. The butter served alongside was herb infused and soft, making it easy to spread and in a word delicious. In short order, the calamari arrived and it was every bit as light, flavorful and crispy and a real bargain at just $8.As for the entree, for my protein, I opted for the Cedar Planked Salmon with grilled asparagus, while my dining companion selected the Green Chili Chicken Cordon. It is said by many famous chefs that you eat with your eyes first and they aren’t wrong. When my dish arrived, it looked like a piece of art that tasted every bit as good as it looked. The asparagus - excellent. As for my partner, her chicken was juicy and tender complete with ham inside. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes, creamed corn and a green chili cream sauce that was very good.Overall, the dining experience was a hit. The restaurant’s ambiance was warm, inviting and elegant. The young man serving us could have not been more accommodating. We will be back.
