Texas Senate budget

In its first major vote, the Texas Senate passed the budget and knowingly moved Senate Bill 1 forward even though it does not adequately fund public education or healthcare.

This budget fails to restore the devastating cuts made to education in 2011, fails to provide any funding for expanding Medicaid and needlessly leaves billions in unspent revenue on the table instead of investing in future generations.

Thankfully, two of our strongest senators stood up for what is right and demanded we fight for the best possible future for Texas.

Sens. Wendy Davis and Sylvia Garcia voted against this draft of the budget and showed they believe we should invest in the future of our state.

I wanted to say how thankful I am to have Wendy Davis in the Senate. Although I am in another district, I applaud her for standing up to the Goliaths in the Senate and casting her vote for education, the working class and just good common sense.

I hope she runs for governor. Lord knows we need "Davids" like Davis to knock down the "Goliaths" ruining our state.
