Rachel Adcock's March 7 letter described how, when she moved from Colorado to Texas, she was appalled by the prevalence of smoking in public. (See: "Smoke-free workplace")

I once went to a pizza restaurant for a quiet meal and was appalled to find it populated by loud, unsupervised children and an employee dressed as an obsequious rodent. Instead of urging government intervention, however, I realized I could walk out as easily as I walked in.
