Unlike last year’s rainout on opening night, the weather was perfect March 14 in Roanoke for the opening night of Evenings on Oak Street.

Johnny D & the Doo Wopps opened the free concert series, held at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays through October, at Austin Street Plaza in historic downtown Roanoke.

The plaza area at 221 N. Oak St. includes a covered stage, landscaped green space, picnic area, restrooms and parking area. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics.
