Leadership symposium
Westlake Academy students will host the 2013 International Student Leadership Symposium for students from around the world.The week-long focus begins March 18 at 2600 J.T. Ottinger Rd.Westlake Academy students will join other tenth graders from Argentina, China, Germany, Oman, the United Kingdom and the U.S. to focus on the human and international aspects of the current global economic crisis.The event, now in its 11th year, is managed in partnership by the American British Academy in Oman and the Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, who invited Westlake Academy to serve as the host this year.Students will learn about leadership, discuss human issues and work together to think about creating positive change in the world.Participating Westlake Academy students were selected through an application process that included two written responses.Dining Dash5KRoanoke’s Dining Dash 5K, Bunny Run 1-Mile Family Fun Run and Easter Egg Scramble will be held March 23 at the Roanoke Soccer Complex, 505 Roanoke Road.The fun begins at 8 a.m. with the Bunny Run 1-Mile Family Fun Run, followed by the Dining Dash 5K at 8:30 and the Easter Egg Scramble hunt at 10:00 a.m.Along with the Easter egg hunt, event goers can enjoy hot dogs, cotton candy and bounce houses.The Bunny Run 1-Mile Family Fun Run is free. Fees are $25 for the Dining Dash 5K and $15 for ages 16 and younger.Proceeds benefit Keep Roanoke Beautiful and Roanoke Park Board Scholarship Fund.Registration, required for all runs, is available online at www.roanoketexas.com. For information call 817-837-9930.Spring Egg ScrambleKeller’s Tree-Mendous Spring Egg Scramble is set from 9:30-11:30 a.m. March 23 at the Bear Creek Park pond, 400 Bear Creek Pkwy.The free event will include egg hunts for ages through 11 years old and will be divided according to age.Bring an Easter basket and camera for photo with the Easter Bunny.Besides games and bounce houses, attendees can pick up a free tree to plant in honor of Arbor Day.For more information go to www.cityofkeller.comCitizen of the YearNominations for Trophy Club’s 2012 Citizen of the Year are due March 22.The two categories available include youth and adult Citizen of the Year.The nominee must be a Trophy Club resident, must not have received compensation for a nominated contribution, must not be a Trophy Club elected official or staff member and should be recognized for service performed during 2012.Information should include one or two pages of information explaining how the nominee went “above and beyond” within the community with specific details of the benefits as a result of the nominee’s endeavors.Information should include testimonials from others and name, address and phone number of both the nominee and nominator.Applications, available online at www.trophyclub.org, should be sent to areiling@trophyclub.co Susan McFarlandHave more to add?
