Keller ISD players, coach take top district basketball honors
District 4-5A district basketball honors were chock full of Keller ISD representatives, including Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, as well as Coach of the Year.Keller’s Austyn Kennedy was named Offensive Player of the Year, with teammate Mike Opolski taking Defensive Player of the Year.Timber Creek’s Devante Waldon was the top Newcomer of the Year.Coach of the Year honors went to Keller’s Randall Durant.Other First and Second Team selections included:First Team: Ryan Parker, Fossil Ridge; Josh Tatum and Todd Christensen, Northwest.Second Team: Chris Kouakou, Fossil Ridge; Ray Munson, Timber Creek; Jordan Enloe, Central; David Ogunwolu, Northwest.Baseball, softball hit district scheduleLocal teams have entered into the district stretch of the season already, with key games already being logged.With the results thus far, the district race will be tight.Last week in baseball, Keller posted a 9-1 win over Central while Northwest got past Fossil Ridge, 6-2.Northwest then dropped a 7-2 game to Haltom on Friday.Later in the week, though, Ridge turned the tables on Keller in a 10-5 win for the Panthers.Byron Nelson dropped a 7-2 decision to Denton Guyer.In softball, Keller hammered Haltom in an 11-4 route, with April Ryan notching a home run with fellow Lady Indian Kaitlyn Alderink hitting a triple.The Nelson girls shut out Guyer 3-0 on Tuesday and then stayed near the top of the district with an 8-0 win over Wichita Falls.Central edged Ridge 5-4 with Erin Juckniewitz hitting two doubles while teammate Chloe Wright had a triple.Richland silenced Timber Creek 9-0 while Carroll beat Northwest 11-1.The teams are back in action this week following a limited spring break schedule.Keller lacrosse picks up tourney winsThe Keller lacrosse team (6-3) won consecutive games over Cedar Park and St. Michaels during a recent tournament in Austin. Keller then picked up another two consecutive wins for the first time since the opening games of the Aggieland tournament in College Station.Keller beat Cedar Park and St. Michael’s by identical 10-6 scores.Have more to add?
