Kansas

Record: 29-5

Region, seed: South, 1

First opponent: 8:50 p.m. Friday, Western Kentucky (20-15), Kansas City, Mo.

Leading scorer: Ben McLemore, 16.4 avg.

Leading rebounder: Jeff Withey, 8.4 avg.

Notable: Despite a three-game losing streak in February, including a loss at TCU, the Jayhawks put together a dominating run at the Big 12 tournament to claim their ninth title.

Kansas State

Record: 27-7   Region, seed: West, 4

First opponent: Boise State/La Salle winner, 2:10 p.m. Friday, Kansas City, Mo.

Leading scorer: Rodney McGruder, 15.7 avg.

Leading rebounder: McGruder, 5.4 avg.

Notable: The Wildcats looked tired in their loss to Kansas in the Big 12 title game, but are as deep and talented as any team in their region. Senior guard Rodney McGruder has been one of the most reliable scoring threats in the nation.

Oklahoma State

Record: 24-8   Region, seed: Midwest, 5

First opponent: Oregon (26-8), 3:40 p.m. Thursday, San Jose, Calif.

Leading scorer: Marcus Smart, 15.4

Leading rebounder: Michael Cobbins, 6.2

Notable: The Cowboys return to the tournament for the first time since 2010 and third time in five years. OSU’s No. 5 seed is its highest since being a No. 2 seed in 2005. OSU has only played the Ducks once — Dec. 28, 1987.

Oklahoma

Record: 20-11   Region, seed: South, 10

First opponent: San Diego State (22-10), 8:20 p.m. Friday, Philadelphia

Leading scorer: Romero Osby, 15.8 avg.

Leading rebounder: Osby, 7.0 avg.

Notable: The Sooners have lost two in a row and are 4-4 in the their last eight games, not the sort of string that projects what it takes to make a long run in the tournament, especially against the Aztecs and a potential third-round meeting with No. 2 seed Georgetown in their way.

Iowa State

Record: 22-11  Region, seed: West, 10

First opponent: Notre Dame (25-9), 8:45 p.m. Friday, Dayton, Ohio

Leading scorer: Will Clyburn, 15.0 avg.

Leading rebounder: Melvin Ejim, 9.3

Notable: Six Cyclones have made at least 22 3-pointers and all six players shooting 31 percent or better from 3-point range. Three players have made 60 or more, including Tyrus McGee, who is 90 of 197 (46 percent) from the arc.
