After 37 years with the Grapevine Fire Department, Battalion Chief Carey Graves has retired.

His Feb. 28 ceremony, held at the Convention & Visitors Bureau, started with a “review of the troops.”

The fire department was dressed in Class A uniforms and in formation, as Battalion Chief Carey Graves made his way up and down the rows to each firefighter. Then there was the final salute from his troops.

The 1957 Fire Truck that was the first fire truck that Graves rode on was used to block off Hudgins Street for the review. The Honor Guard from the Grapevine Fire Department posted the colors.

He was presented with the flag that flew over Grapevine Station No. 1 on his last day of duty, his battalion chief helmet, a shadow box with all of his badges, helmet shields and other awards from his 37 years.

Fire Chief Steve Bass and Deputy Chief Darrell Brown presided over the ceremony, which was attended by friends, family, city staff, retired firefighters and firefighters from surrounding cities.
