ARLINGTON — The UT Arlington baseball team couldn’t overcome shaky pitching in a 10-5 loss to McNeese State on Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The loss is the third straight for UTA.After falling behind 2-1 early, McNeese State (10-7) came alive in the middle innings, scoring nine runs to put the game away.UTA starting pitcher Zach Thompson (1-2) took the brunt of the punishment, giving up seven runs, six earned, on six hits while striking out none.The Mavericks, who were shut out 4-0 by the Cowboys on Friday, took advantage of three singles, a walk and an error to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning.Cowboys starter Blake Ware (4-1) gave up five runs, four earned, and walked five in six innings to take the win.While UTA (9-9) was able to collect 10 hits, the team could not take advantage and left 10 runners on base.Designated hitter Matt Shortall led the Mavericks offensively, going 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. His single in the first extended his hitting streak to nine games.The teams will close out the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
