No. 5 Georgetown, No. 2 Duke upset in conference tournaments

Brandon Triche scored the go-ahead basket early in overtime and No. 19 Syracuse advanced to the Big East final with a 58-55 victory over No. 5 Georgetown (25-6) on Friday night in the final conference clash of their storied heavyweight rivalry.

The Orange (26-8) will go for their sixth crown tonight in New York against fourth-ranked Louisville, which beat No. 24 Notre Dame behind Russ Smith’s 20 points.

•  ACC: In the quarterfinals in Greensboro, N.C., Dez Wells scored a career-high 30 points and Maryland (22-11) upset No. 2 Duke (27-5) 83-74, which was only 4-of-25 from 3-point range.

Maryland will face North Carolina, which beat Florida State 83-62.

Scott Wood had 23 points and seven 3-pointers to help North Carolina State (24-9) beat Virginia (21-11) 75-56. C.J. Leslie added 17 points and 11 rebounds with three blocks for the fifth-seeded Wolfpack, who blew the game open after halftime.

Shane Larkin scored 20 points and No. 9 Miami (25-6) pulled away for a 69-58 win over Boston College (16-17). Miami let an early 13-point lead disappear before making all the plays down the stretch.•  Atlantic 10: Rotnei Clarke led five players in doubles figures with 14 points in as Butler (26-7) took a 69-58 win over La Salle (21-9) and will face No. 16 St. Louis in the semifinals in New York. La Salle must await its NCAA fate.

Saint Louis pulled away early to beat Charlotte 72-55. A day earlier, ninth-seeded Charlotte (21-11) came from behind to shock Richmond 68-63 by hitting eight free throws in the final five seconds after the Spiders were called for three technical fouls.

Treveon Graham scored 17 points, and hot-shooting No. 25 VCU (25-7) beat Saint Joseph's (18-13) 82-79. VCU will play UMass, which upset Temple 79-74.

•  Big Ten: Cody Zeller scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead No. 3 Indiana (27-5) to an 80-64 win over Illinois (22-12) and into the semifinals against Wisconsin in Chicago.

Ben Brust scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half and No. 22 Wisconsin (22-10) knocked off sixth-ranked Michigan (26-7) by 68-59.

DeShaun Thomas and Sam Thompson had 19 points apiece, helping No. 10 Ohio State (24-7) to a 71-50 rout of Nebraska (15-18).

Adreian Payne had 18 points and 10 rebounds, leading No. 8 Michigan State (25-7) to a rugged victory over Iowa (21-12) 59-56.

•  SEC: In the quarterfinals in Nashville, Vanderbilt beat Kentucky 64-48 to put a serious dent in the Wildcats' hopes of at least having a chance to defend their national title. Kentucky (21-11) came in as a bubble team. Vanderbilt (16-16) shot 50 percent overall, hitting 8 of 17 3-pointers.

Levi Randolph scored 15 points as No. 4 seed Alabama (21-11) defeated No. 5 seed Tennessee 58-48 in a quarterfinal between teams considered to be on the NCAA bubble. Alabama will play No. 13 Florida (25-6) today, which got a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds from Erik Murphy to beat LSU (19-12) 80-58.

Former Hurst L.D. Bell standout Marshall Henderson scored 27 points as Ole Miss upset Missouri 64-62.

•  Conference USA: Chris Crawford scored 30 points while connecting on eight 3-pointers as No. 20 Memphis (29-4) reached the final by beating host Tulsa (17-15) 85-74. Memphis will play second-seeded Southern Mississippi (25-8), an 86-67 winner over UTEP (18-14).

•  Pac 12: Jordan Adams scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half and No. 21 UCLA beat No. 18 Arizona for the third time this season, a 66-64 victory to put the Bruins in the final.

•  Mountain West: Tony Snell scored 17, including five 3-pointers, to lead No. 15 New Mexico past San Diego State 60-50 and into the final .
