TCU track and field won five events on Friday at the TCU Invitational.

Winning men’s events were Lavon Collins in the 400-meter hurdles, Cameron Parker in the triple jump and the 4x100-meter relay team of Ronnie Baker, Charles Silmon, Harvey McSwain and Raymond Bozmans.

Women’s winners were Larissa Matthews in the 100-meter hurdles and Megan Smith in the shot put.

• Women’s tennis: TCU won its Big 12 debut with a 4-3 victory at West Virginia. The Frogs, who have won seven consecutive matches, improved to 10-1.

UTA roundup

• Softball: UT Arlington managed only six hits, but split a doubleheader on the second day of the San Diego II Classic.

The Mavericks (14-10) were held to two hits in a 2-0 loss to UNLV.

But Teri Lyles pitched a 2-hitter and UTA scored twice in the sixth inning to beat Bryant University 2-1.

Rachel Forshaw had two hits and an RBI for the Mavericks.

Tarleton falls

The Tarleton State women fell behind 44-29 at halftime, rallied in the second half, but fell to Midwestern State 91-78 in the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament in Grand Junction, Colo.

The TexAnns (19-10), behind 26 second-half points by Kiara Wright, pulled into a 67-67 tie, but Midwestern State pulled away late.

Wright finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds.

“The first half just didn’t go our way,” Tarleton head coach Ronnie Hearne said. “The second half did. We played hard all year long and these girls gave us everything they could give.”
