One person was shot to death and another was wounded early Thursday during a gunbattle in a Dallas nightclub parking lot that involved an off-duty Dallas police officer, authorities said.

Police have not determined who shot the victims, but investigators interviewed numerous witnesses at police headquarters Thursday.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Club Icon, 2200 W. Northwest Highway.

Two groups were fighting when gunfire erupted, police said.

Senior Cpl. Christopher Timms approached and also fired, police said.

The man who died was later identified as 21-year-old Tyrique Rashad Johnson. Police did not list his hometown, but public records list him as a Cedar Hill resident.

The second victim was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas with a non-life-threatening wound, police said.
