FORT WORTH -- A well-known funeral home in Stop Six was heavily damaged by fire late Thursday.
Smoke was billowing from Williams Funeral Chapel, 5224 Ramey Ave., when the first firefighters arrived at 9:30 p.m., said Engineer Tim Hardeman, a fire department spokesman.The one-alarm blaze started in living quarters at the rear of the business where two people were residing, Hardeman said. A woman who received minor burns was treated at the scene, he said.One body was in the building in preparation for a funeral, Hardeman said. As firefighters beat back the flames, a van arrived to moved the body."It looks like they're working to do that now," Hardeman said at 10:30 p.m.Funeral director Kelton Williams, contacted by phone late Thursday, said the business was about 70 years old, but he was too busy to comment further. -- Bill MillerHave more to add?
