One person was shot to death and another person was wounded in a gunbattle at a Dallas parking lot early Thursday that involved an off-duty Dallas police officer, authorities said Thursday.

Dallas police have not determined who wounded the victims, but numerous witnesses were being interviewed by investigators at Dallas police headquarters Thursday morning to sort out the shooting.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Club Icon, 2200 W. Northwest Highway, in Dallas.

At about that time, there was an altercation that pitted two groups of people when gunfire erupted between the groups, police said.

The officer approached and also fired his weapon.

One man was dead, but Dallas police had not released his identity. The second victim was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
