Jurickson Profar is headed to the World Baseball Classic championship round.

The Netherlands added Profar, the Texas Rangers shortstop who is regarded as baseball’s top prospect, as an injury replacement.

Profar, who turned 20 last month, will join the team Thursday and take the spot of infielder Yurendell De Caster, who has a strained left plantar fascia.

Profar, who is from Curacao, a Dutch territory, turned down an opportunity to play with the team earlier this spring.

But Rangers manager Ron Washington and president of baseball operations/GM Jon Daniels have said recently they would support Profar in going to the WBC if an injury situation arose.

Washington said Profar has shown enough this spring, batting .222 with five runs scored, a double, triple and five RBIs.

Profar is competing for a possible utility job with the Rangers, but is likely bound for Triple A Round Rock where he can play every day when the season starts.
