Regarding Mike Norman's Friday column, "FW-to-Collin rail plan died a sloppy death": I agree with the Fort Worth City Council refusing to sign up for rail service to/from Plano or Richardson. I have lived in Fort Worth 46 years and have been to those places perhaps six times.
The people in the county to the east of us, seeing that TexRail is a viable project that can be completed within three years, decided to hitch their wagon to us because by itself the Plano extension is an expensive and hard sell.I'm familiar with rail infrastructure and can say the route for TexRail exists, the tracks are maintained and in excellent condition, signals are operable and the rails are used every day (the southwestern portion as a freight line and the section from Fort Worth to Grapevine by the tourist train). The entire route east of Grapevine probably needs to be re-railed, signaling installed from zero, grade crossings established and bridges built or replaced. Really all that they have is the right-of-way.Let's push ahead and get our passenger rail line to Grapevine and DFW Airport done. We are so close! Let DART take care of Plano.-- Joe Klein, Fort WorthHave more to add? News tip? Tell us
