LAS VEGAS — A huge run by New Mexico State that gave the Aggies an 18-point lead in the final minutes put the game out of the reach of the UT Arlington women’s basketball team, whose season ended with a 76-63 loss in the first round of the WAC tournament on Tuesday.The Aggies (15-15) went on an 18-2 run to go up 67-49 with less than five minutes to go. The Mavericks (7-23) responded by reeling off nine straight points themselves before New Mexico State finished the game at the free-throw line.“I’m so very proud of this team and their performance today,” UTA interim coach Karen Blair said. “They actually fought hard for 40 minutes and never gave up.”The defeat wrapped up UTA’s only season in the WAC before moving to the Sun Belt Conference next season.Laila Suleiman led the Mavericks with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jordan Holub added 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, and Aron Garcia had eight points and 10 rebounds. Kiara Parker, UTA’s lone senior, ended her career with eight points and five boards.The Mavericks shot only 34 percent and were outrebounded 47-30. New Mexico State also had a 28-15 edge in second-chance points.
