U.S. Sen. Rand Paul's filibuster against President Obama's nominee for CIA director was entertaining but misdirected.

It was Republicans who gave the executive branch the powers that Paul bemoans.

The Bush administration started bending the Constitution when it locked up people at Guantanamo Bay without legal recourse.

And using the military against U.S. citizens was legalized in 2006 with a modification to the Insurrection Act, passed by the Republican-majority Congress.

As a staunch liberal, I concur with Paul and I find it disappointing that our Congress gave the executive branch these tyrannical powers. But Obama is merely implementing Bush policies.

Paul needs to encourage his fellow senators to change these unconstitutional laws that a Republican-majority Congress passed.
