Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer made his franchise tag a formality Tuesday, hours before free agency began, signing on the dotted line.
It assures Spencer a guaranteed $10.63 million for 2013, though the sides would work out a long-term deal to lower his cap number.The Cowboys placed the tag on Spencer on March 4, the second consecutive year he has been franchised. Spencer played last season under an $8.856 million tender.Spencer, a first-round pick 2007, made his first Pro Bowl in 2012 when he led the team in tackles with 106 while making a career-high 11 sacks.
