Keller ISD

Diabetes walk

Keller ISD has teamed up with the American Diabetes Association to host the eighth annual School Walk for Diabetes at 9 a.m. April 13 at the Keller ISD Stadium.

The Keller school district was recognized recently by the American Diabetes Association for being the No. 1 fundraising district in North Texas, as well as placing in the top five in the nation. Last year’s event raised more than $35,000. For more information, visit main.diabetes.org/goto/kellerisd2013.

Twitter chat

Every Sunday at 8 p.m., Keller district parents teachers and administrators are engaging in a new online forum #KellerISDChat on Twitter. The discussion was launched on Feb. 18. Participants from the school district and beyond can discuss various issues surrounding education and social media.

KHS One Act Play

KHS Indian Theatre will host a public performance of the group’s 2013 One Act Play, “BOB,” at 7 p.m. March 22 in the Keller High Find Arts Center. Admission is free.

Brown Bag

Superintendent Randy Reid will host his monthly Brown Bag Forum at noon March 21 at Whitley Road Elementary School. Parents and community members are invited to attend for the informal question-and-answer session.

Northwest ISD

Secrets to success

Justin Tucker helped the Baltimore Ravens win the Super Bowl last month. On March 7 Tucker surprised seventh- and eighth-graders at Tidwell Middle School in Roanoke during class. He shared with them the keys behind his successes and achievements. His message focused on the importance of character, perseverance and goal-setting.

Tech savvy

Nearly 1,000 NISD student presenters showcased their technology skills to parents and community members at the third annual Techno Expo on Feb. 28. About 2,500 visitors chose from a variety of 450 breakout sessions on multimedia and animation topics. Students in the district’s Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality served dinner to the visitors, and district fine arts students provided musical performances.

National PTA contest

Byron Nelson High School freshman Savanna Smith has advanced to the National PTA Reflections competition for her senior literature entry Concentrated Hope. She received an Overall Award of Excellence in the Texas PTA Reflections contest. Winners from the national competition will be announced in May.

Student holiday

March 29 has been designated a bad weather day. Since school has not been canceled due to inclement weather, March 29 is a student holiday. Classes resume April 1.

Pre-qualification

Northwest offers prekindergarten classes for qualifying four-year-olds and it’s now time to begin the process. Pre-Qualification packets are available at all district elementary schools and can be picked up through March 25. For information visit www.nisdtx.org/prek or call 817-215-0198.
