Fresh off a trip to Lubbock, the UT Arlington baseball team got right back on a bus and headed north to play a midweek game with Arkansas-Little Rock at 3 p.m. today at Gary Hogan Field.
With a late Sunday surge that saw the UT Arlington baseball team take a 7-1 lead, give up 10 unanswered runs, then come back and score six runs, the Mavericks avoided a sweep by Texas Tech and took a 13-12 win back home with them.“We blew the lead on Friday, but it was weird weekend all around,” coach Darin Thomas said. “There was a walk here, a bloop single here. The wind did some weird things to that ball when it got up in the air.”Matt Shortall had a strong weekend at the plate, especially on Sunday when he went 3-for-6 with four RBIs to get the Mavericks Saturday’ 4-1 loss where they were shut down by Trey Masek’s eight shutout innings. Masek hasn’t given up a run in 32 innings of work this year.“I can’t fault us for not hitting that guy, he’s a great pitcher,” Thomas said. They’ll need to keep hitting against the Trojans, who’ve smacked 13 home runs this season. For comparison, the Mavericks only have two homers. After beginning the season 9-3, the Trojans have lost their last four games. Thomas said this was originally supposed to be a two-game midweek set, but since both teams will be in the Sun Belt Conference next year, they agreed to do a home-and-home set this season.UALR will come to Arlington on April 24.More information
