A Lewisville man has joined his son in the Denton County Jail after he crashed his pickup into the facility when jailers refused his request to visit, authorities said Sunday.

The incident occurred about 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Denton County Jail, 127 N. Woodrow Lane, in Denton.

Rolando Hernandez, 34, went to the jail to see his son but was turned away because jailers believed he was intoxicated. Information about his son's incarceration was not available Sunday.

Two detention officers followed Hernandez outside and warned him not to drive. Officers also told his family members who were waiting on a sidewalk not to let him drive, said Sandi Brackeen of the Denton County Sheriff's Office on Sunday.

"But he jumped inside of the vehicle and drove forward, hitting a fence," Brackeen said. "He put it in reverse, hit two cars and then drove around the corner, hit a curb and smashed into the jail building."

On impact, two inmates inside a jail cell were knocked out of their beds. Hernandez and the inmates suffered minor injuries.

Officials locked down the jail for about four hours Saturday.

Hernandez remained in jail Sunday, accused of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief.
