TCU’s rifle team finished third Saturday at the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, with an aggregate score of 4,664 points.
West Virginia took the championship with 4,679 points.Three TCU seniors, Olympian Sarah Scheer, Sarah Beard and Caitlin Morrisey, ended their college careers with a four-year record of 48-3 in matches, two national championships and two third-place finishes.Scheer finished fourth individually this year, and freshman Hannah Black was fifth. • Track & field: Charles Silmon earned his sixth career All-America honor with a third-place finish in the men’s 60-meter dash finals of the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Silmon turned in a 6.61. • Men’s tennis: TCU edged North Carolina 4-3 in a five-hour match. The Frogs upped their record to 9-4. • Women’s tennis: TCU blanked Wichita State 6-0. The Frogs, 9-1, have won all five of their matches against the Shockers.UTA roundup • Track & field: Romain Martin became a three-time NCAA Indoor All-American in the heptathlon when he finished eighth at the national meet in Fayetteville, Ark.Martin, who began the day in ninth place, moved up one spot over the final three events.He placed fourth with an 8.23 in the 60-meter hurdles. Martin cleared 4.80 meters in the pole vault and ran the 1,000 meters in 2:44.14. • Softball: Britnea Barilli had a run-scoring single in the eighth inning and Teri Lyles pitched a complete game, helping UTA beat Troy 3-2 at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic in Lubbock.Rachel Forshaw had a two-run double in the seventh for the Mavericks (9-7).UTA plays Indiana-Purdue at 6 tonight.Wesleyan rompsTexas Wesleyan (18-8, 6-3 RRAC) scored a combined 12 runs in the third and fourth innings on the way to a 16-1 victory at Jarvis Christian.Brian White highlighted a five-run third with a two-run single.
