Trey Masek pitched a two-hitter over eight innings, leading Texas Tech to a 4-1 victory over UT Arlington in non-conference baseball on Saturday.

The Red Raiders (10-6) scored single runs in the second and fourth innings and added two more in the seventh.

The Mavericks (8-6) avoided the shutout in the ninth inning.

Jake Pinchback tripled and scored on a ground ball by Ryan Walker.

Texas Tech scored in the second inning when Eric Gutierrez singled, advanced on an error and scored on a ground out by Tim Proudfoot.

Proudfoot singled in the fourth inning and eventually scored on an error.

The Mavericks committed three errors.

Jarrard Poteet started the Red Raiders’ two-run seventh inning with a double. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Mason Randolph.

Jake Barrios singled, moved up on an infield single by Zach Davis and scored on a single by Bryant Burleson.

“I thought we battled pretty well,” UTA coach Darin Thomas said. “Their starter hasn’t given up a run all year and obviously he is good. That’s why last night was important because we knew tonight was going to be really tough. I thought Zach had good outing in his first start. We will just have to bounce back tomorrow and try to get one.”

Starting pitcher Zach Thompson pitched a career-high 6 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs.
