Texas Tech scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and went on to beat UT Arlington 8-3 in nonconference baseball Friday night.

The Mavericks (8-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

Justin Copeland had an infield single, Derek Miller walked and Greg McCall followed with a two-run triple. Travis Sibley knocked in McCall with another infield single.

Mavericks starting pitcher Brad Vachon breezed through five innings, giving up only one hit, walking none and striking out five.

But relief pitcher Chad Nack ran into immediate trouble in the sixth inning.

The Red Raiders (9-6) stormed back with two infield singles, two walks, and a two-run single by Mason Randolph and a two-run double by Jake Barrios.

The Red Raiders added an insurance run in the seventh inning, then padded the lead with two runs in the eighth, one by virtue of a run-scoring double from Barrios.

Four Texas Tech relievers combined to pitch four innings, giving up only two hits and no runs.
