Jordan Woy, the agent for linebacker Anthony Spencer, tweeted on Friday that his client has accepted the franchise tag the Cowboys placed on him earlier this week, guaranteeing him $10.6 million for next season.
He said they will now focus on negotiating a long-term contract extension with the Cowboys. Spencer will sign the franchise tender in the next week. The two sides have until July to get a deal done. The Cowboys also tendered a restricted free agent contract offer to safety Danny McCray, guaranteeing him a one-year deal of $1.323 million for 2013.The Cowboys can match any offer to McCray in free agency but won’t receive any draft-pick compensation if he leaves for another team because he originally was an undrafted free agent.McCray is primarily a special teams player and will be brought back with that role in mind for next season after getting exposed in the regular defense in 2012 when he started 10 games due to injuries.McCray is the only restricted free agent who was tendered a contract by the Cowboys. Center Phil Costa was slated to become a restricted free agent before signing a two-year contract extension last weekend.Clarence E. Hill Jr., 817-390-7760 Twitter: @clarencehilljr
