A stupid vote

As some Republicans suggest to the GOP that it stop being the "stupid party," I wonder: Did the Texas Republican congressional delegation not get the memo? Their recent vote en masse against Hurricane Sandy disaster relief was not only unconscionable but stupid.

These people gambled with the health, safety and welfare of the people of this state. Texas is second only to Florida in the miles of shoreline vulnerable to Atlantic hurricanes, and part of Texas is in Tornado Alley. Furthermore, Texas is vulnerable to Gulf oil spills, wildfires and other disasters that might require federal aid.

Now, thanks to Texas Republicans in Congress, how would a future disaster relief request from this state be received? Every weather advisory from now on will prompt a new worry: If our state is hit by a devastating storm, will the other states and the federal government come to our aid, or will we be on our own because of the selfish, politically motivated actions of these self-serving politicians?
