Millions of armed Americans tramp through the fields and forests of our 50 states every year. They are called "hunters," and although millions of weapons are carried by the hunters, I haven't heard of a single murder by them.

One must possess a license to hunt game. I was a hunter in my youth during the Depression years. With a successful hunt, we had meat on the table.

I am a member of the National Rife Association, but I differ somewhat from the organization in that I see no need for weapons of mass destruction to be available to the general population without strict licensing and registration requirements.

The AK-47 and the AR-15 are such weapons. They serve no purpose for hunting or marksmanship. It is imperative that we keep such weapons out of the hands of psychopaths and people with a criminal history. The law must be defined to accomplish this, and then strictly enforced.
